Wisdom Teeth Removal
If the wisdom teeth erupt at an angle or if there is not enough space for them, these teeth can cause serious dental complications.
Wisdom teeth removal can relieve pain and prevent problems such as infection and overcrowding, protecting your oral health and appearance.
At our Rockville, MD, dental office, Drs. Victor Siegel and Shannen Manlucu can perform wisdom teeth removal with minimal discomfort...

When Is Wisdom Tooth Removal Necessary?
There are several circumstances under which Dr. Siegel may recommend removing you or your child's wisdom teeth.
Overcrowding
The most common issues involve limited spacing. As the wisdom teeth grow in, they can push the other teeth out of alignment, reversing the effects of orthodontic treatment.
Impaction or Partial Eruption
When there is not enough room in the jaw for the third molars to erupt properly or when the wisdom teeth grow in at an angle, they can become impacted, or trapped under the gums. They may also only partially erupt. This can increase the risk of:
- Infection
- Pain
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
- Cysts
- Tumors
- Damage to a neighboring tooth
When Should the Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?
Do You or Your Child Need an Extraction?
Before recommending removal, Dr. Siegel or Dr. Manlucu will examine you or your child's oral health and take a series of digital x-rays. Generally, a full panoramic x-ray of the teeth and jaw is necessary. Using these images, we will plan and perform your surgery at our Rockland office. If the wisdom teeth are severely impacted, we may refer you to an oral surgeon.
